Potted History


The Club was formed in 1957 and is based at Ethel Road, close to the centre of Leicester.

We have a licensed clubhouse at the ground and we offer excellent facilities to visiting teams.

The Club play in the Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket League.

Among many achievements over the years, the first team were Champions in 2004 and runners up in 2006 and 2008 in the Senior League.

The club is embarking on a development programme at the Ethel Road ground. With the assistance of the Leicester City Council we are planning to build a new community clubhouse on the site. This will serve other social and community activities and will include a cricket academy.

Meet Our Team

These are some of the key personnel of the Leicester Caribbean Cricket Club


Mr. George Martin

George has spent almost 20 years with Leicester Caribbean. Prior to assuming the Chairmanship of LCCC he was a player, Vice-Captain and Captain, the latter for 8 years. Upon retirement from playing, George was elected Chairman of the Club, a position he has held for the past 5 years. Cricket was an integral part of his life since school in the Caribbean. He continued to play at various different Clubs after emigrating to the UK. During George’s tenure as Captain with the LCCC, he led the team to league and cup winner’s trophies. League success twice and runners-up three times, George also received individual awards for his batting and bowling. A qualified electrician and father of four, George possesses man-management skills and a thorough understanding of the game. His passion for the sport is instrumental in his continued association with the Club. He has a keen interest in the development of sports, particularly within local communities.

Canon Irving Richards

Vice Chairman
Canon Richards is a lifelong lover of cricket and Vice-Chairman of Leicester Caribbean Cricket Club. An Anglican Priest – member of the College of Canons at the Cathedral Church of St Martin, Leicester, he studied at Leicester De Montfort University and the College of the Resurrection, Mirfield Yorkshire. He was born and brought up in Antigua. Canon Richards Chairs the Antigua/ Barbuda Association - Leicester, is an Executive Member of The Race Equality Centre. He is also a Council Member of the Royal Commonwealth Ex- Services League, London. Further interests include reading, photography, sailing, sea fishing and the natural sciences and wildlife. Canon Richard’s philosophy of life is as follows. “The common good is always superior to personal gain or individual precedence thus, ‘each endeavouring all achieving”.
Yahya Hafejee

Mr. Yahya Hafejee

Yahya is a keen and talented sportsman with a love of various sports. An avid fan of Manchester City, he joined Leicester Caribbean in 2008 and currently holds the position of second team Captain. He has been the leading second team run scorer for the past five years, and was voted best batsman by the senior league in 2012 and most valuable player 2008. In addition, he has maintained his position of leading wicket taker as a bowler for a number of years. For the past five years Yahya has been the Club’s Treasurer, utilising skills acquired by studying accountancy at college and university. Presently employed as a Civil Servant having graduated from the University of Manchester. Yahya has been married for over twenty years and is father to two daughters aged sixteen and twenty.

The OSCAs at Lords

Yahya and Veris attended the OSCAs at Lords on Monday, 9th October, 2017. Veris won the Regional award in the category of Get the Game On. Regional winners get invited to Lords.
